Grand Lake Metropolitan Recreation District has developed scenic mountain biking and hiking trails on the recreation district land. There are a variety of distances and difficulty levels, from short loops to a 6-mile round-trip hike/bike, many dog-friendly options, and a picnic area overlooking a beautiful wetland. (For summer use only).
Ride the single track trails through fun and exciting terrain, with vistas of the three lakes, Colorado River, and wetlands with wild flowers. In 2011 we completed the single track trail to the Colorado River, thanks to the assistance of a few volunteers. Our trails are now a true single-track biking trail system with many trails that wind around our 400 acres. We have additional plans for the future with many more trails to come on the land that has not yet been utilized.
Last season we completed a beginner mountain bike trail located at the start of the trail head, just off of the parking lot. The trail is approximately one mile long in order to encourage beginner riders to ride the trail in both directions and provide the opportunity to practice riding in an area that is not too difficult. We also completed one new overlook with views of golf course and trail system, as well as new benches for when you need to take a break. We have also added four new picnic spots for our bikers and hikers to enjoy.
IMPORTANT NOTE TO BIKERS: Our trail system has been mountain bike rated as Intermediate to Advanced. We recommend beginner bike riders do not attempt this trail system (with the exception of the new beginner mountain bike trail).
We have wildlife - Beware of wildlife.
